Guidewire Interview Questions and Answers (Developer, Tester, BA)
By GuidewireTraining.com faculty · Updated
Short answer: Guidewire interviews usually test four areas: insurance domain basics, the PolicyCenter policy lifecycle, technical configuration (Gosu, data model, PCFs, rules) and integration (plugins, web services, messaging, batch). Strong candidates answer briefly, then explain how they used the concept in a project.
Developer questions
What is the difference between an entity and a typelist? An entity is a business object stored in the database, such as a policy or contact. A typelist is a fixed list of allowed values, such as policy status, used by entity fields.
What is an enhancement in Gosu? An enhancement adds methods or properties to an existing type without subclassing it, so you can extend Guidewire entities cleanly.
How do rules work in PolicyCenter? Rules are Gosu conditions and actions organized into rule sets that run at defined points, for example validation before a policy is bound.
Tester questions
Which policy transactions would you regression-test after a rating change? Submission, policy change, renewal and audit, because each recalculates premium.
Business analyst questions
How do you document a new coverage requirement? Capture the business rule, the coverage terms and limits, the rating impact and the affected transactions as user stories with acceptance criteria, then confirm the fit-gap against the product model.

What is Gosu?
Gosu is Guidewire's statically typed programming language. It runs on the Java Virtual Machine, can use Java libraries, and is used to write business logic, rules and enhancements in InsuranceSuite.
What is a PCF file in Guidewire?
A PCF (Page Configuration Format) file is an XML file that defines Guidewire user-interface elements such as locations, screens, panels and widgets.
What is an entity extension?
An entity extension adds fields or behaviour to an existing Guidewire entity through an .etx file, without changing the base product files, which keeps upgrades manageable.
